How to Know When It’s Time
If you’re concerned about your pet’s health, we recommend taking the following questionnaires from Lap of Love:
Your veterinarian can perform an assessment to evaluate your pet’s physical and mental quality of life by considering the following symptoms or behaviors:
- Not eating or drinking
- Poor mobility
- Persistent vomiting or diarrhea
- Feeling severe pain
- Uncommon accidents around the house
What to Expect with Humane Euthanasia
If you decide to move forward with the cat and dog euthanasia procedure, our team can walk you through our process. As pet lovers ourselves, we know how difficult it can be to say goodbye to your companion. Rest assured, at Cheyenne Mountain Animal Hospital in Colorado Springs, we treat every pet with the love and compassion they deserve and strive to provide the easiest experience possible given the circumstances.
Reviewing Paperwork
A member of our team can review our process and the paperwork involved. Payment can be taken care of before or after the procedure, whichever is easiest for you. We are focused on doing what’s best for you and your pet during this difficult time and aim to keep you informed to make this process as simple as possible.
Saying Goodbye
We welcome you to spend as much time with your pet as you’d like. When you are ready, we will sedate your pet prior to euthanasia to help reduce stress and allow your pet to fall into a deep sleep. This usually takes about 10-15 minutes to become effective. Then, we will place an IV catheter to administer the injection. Once your pet is asleep and you are comfortable, we will provide the euthanasia injection.
Remembering Your Companion
We ask that you turn off the lights and close the door once you have left the exam room to allow your pet some privacy. A member of our team will return to cover your pet’s body with a soft blanket. We are also happy to discuss our pet memorial options with you at your convenience.
