Dr. Wechter, DVM
Medical Director
About Dr. Wechter
Dr. Wechter is the Medical Director at Cheyenne Mountain Animal Hospital. Originally from Chicago, she graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017. She brings nearly a decade of experience in small animal medicine, with special interests in geriatric pet care, internal medicine, backyard poultry, and exotic companion mammals.
Dr. Wechter’s veterinary training includes international studies in Thailand, Costa Rica, and China, as well as diverse clinical experiences across the U.S. These opportunities gave her a broad, hands-on foundation for working with a wide range of species and medical presentations. Her clinical approach emphasizes clear communication, continuity of care, and strong relationships with both clients and patients.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Wechter is a dedicated mentor to new and developing veterinarians. She fosters a collaborative, compassionate environment where ongoing learning and medical excellence go hand in hand. It’s not uncommon to find a high school, undergraduate, or veterinary student shadowing her in the hospital.
At home in rural Colorado, Dr. Wechter shares her farm with multiple dogs, cats, and chickens…and always seems to have room for one more.

Dr. Vanessa Schilling
Veterinarian
About Dr. Schilling
Dr. Schilling was born in Denver, Colorado and was raised in Wheat Ridge, which is just outside of Denver. She received a Bachelors of Science from Colorado State University in 2010, and a Degree of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2018. She started volunteering at a local veterinary clinic when she was fifteen years old and was hired there as an assistant at sixteen. She received on the job training to eventually become a veterinary technician.
From there, it just made sense to continue on with veterinary medicine, since it was a field she loved and a field she was familiar with. She lives with three cats, a small herd of horses and a few guinea pigs. She also has a dog, Jace, that she shares with her family. In her spare time she likes to travel, hike and ride horses.
